Pratt to recognize MacPherson for Service in the Arts

Pratt Fine Arts Center will present Roger MacPherson with the nonprofit organization's highest honor, the Service in the Arts Award, in recognition of his exceptional dedication to the visual arts and to Pratt.

The ceremony will take place Thursday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at 12th Avenue Iron, 1415 12th Ave.

Throughout the past eight years, while serving as board president, board member and volunteer at Pratt, MacPherson has shared his expertise, resources and thousands of hours of volunteer time with the Central District nonprofit visual arts organization.

"His efforts have made an immeasurable impact both on the organization and the artists we serve," said Michelle Bufano, Pratt's executive director. "The positive influences of his generous spirit and tireless energy have permanently changed the culture of Pratt as an organization. His enduring good nature is the force that has held the Pratt family together through both good times and more challenging times."

In 2007, MacPherson spearheaded a mutually beneficial partnership between his company, MacPherson Construction & Design, and Pratt whereby artists associated with Pratt created original artwork for two 2007 Concept Homes. Similarly, in the previous year, work by Pratt artists was featured in a MacPherson Construction & Design home in the Seattle Street of Dreams. Proceeds from the Concept Home tours and the Seattle Street of Dreams benefited Pratt, while participating artists enjoyed a new audience and exposure for their artwork.

Also due to be honored at the ceremony are Daniel Lipkie and Bill and Ann Burstiner, who will receive Volunteer of the Year awards.

"Daniel Lipkie has been quietly and tirelessly offering technical support to Pratt over more years than most people can remember," said Bufano. "Bill and Ann Burstiner are well known as loyal and enthusiastic volunteers at all of Pratt's events."

Previous honorees of Pratt's bi-annual Service in the Arts award have included Mimi Pierce and the Wyman sisters: Virginia, Ann and Deehan.

Tickets to the ceremony are available with a suggested donation of $125. Phone 206-328-2200 x264.
