Lynn Coady—a writer who is one of the most accomplished novelists at work anywhere—and yet only now is having her first novel published in the U.S. Originally from Nova Scotia, but with residency in Ottawa and Vancouver along the way, she’s presently in Edmonton. The author of four previous books, she is here with the delightful, smart novel that is The Antagonist (Knopf).
Portland-based zinester and illustrator Nicole Georges’ graphic narrative, Calling Dr. Laura (Mariner), is about growing up, coming out, and coming to terms with a Syrian American mother whose official version of the family story might not be exactly accurate. Calling Dr. Laura has its roots in Nicole Georges’ standout autobiographical comics, now turned into a beautiful book.
