After the insanity that was Capitol Hill Block Party last weekend, you would think that Capitol Hill is ready to tone it down, right? It just so happens that the epicenter of Seattle’s nightlife has tons of music events that simply can’t be missed packed back to back this weekend. In the spirit of kicking off the month of August on the right note, and if you still have some energy in you (I’m sure you will after a long work week), there’s a lot worth checking out. Here are my top picks for music in Capitol Hill and the Central District this weekend.
Where I’ll be Friday:
SHABAZZ PALACES – LESE MAJESTY ALBUM RELEASE
Friday, August 1, 2014 | Neumous | Doors @ 8pm, $15 ADV ***21+
Shabazz Palaces, my favorite Seattle-based hip-hop collective, have released their long anticipated album “Lese Majesty.” As a huge fan, the wait has felt like forever — but it’s finally here. Shabazz Palaces’ 2012 album release “Black Up” is really high up there on my list of album releases in the last decade, and Lese Majesty feels like the perfect follow-up project. Catch their release party this weekend to get down to their new tracks and meet other Shabazz enthusiasts.

HOODSTOCK 2014: Lifting Up the Hood!
Saturday, August 2, 2014 | The MLKy Way House | 3pm — 9pm, $10 ***All ages w/ 21+ bar and beer garden
HOODSTOCK’s 7th annual music festival meets killer house party is here, thanks to the graciousness of NighTraiN, Seattle’s badass all-female afro-punk ensemble. Complete with 12 amazing acts from the Northwest and beyond, as well as good food and booze, HOODSTOCK is going to be the ultimate public private party. I’m personally stoked to catch one of my favorite local DJs Toya B, as well as San Francisco’s City of Women, Portland’s Hyenas, and the Fur Coats, and Stranger Genius award nominee Eric Blood … And, of course, NighTraiN. Prepare yourself for a day packed with good music and good times — we can’t tell you the exact location, so find someone in the know!
Stay tuned for our photo and twitter coverage of HOODSTOCK. For more info on the lineup and set times, visit the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/753038178070865/
Cairo presents: VIBRATIONS 2014
Sunday, August 3, 2014 | Volunteer Park | 2pm — 10 pm, Free ***All ages
Cairo’s third annual VIBRATIONS festival can best be summed up as a day of local music and art in a (hopefully) sunny park in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Check out local acts Naomi Punk, DJAO, Wimps, USF, and more as well as artists Frank Correa, Aidan Fitzgerald, and others. VIBRATIONS will be complete with some of your favorite local vendors and retailer. It’ll be the perfect cap to a crazy weekend.
