Local characters, dignitaries and investors of time, money and sentiment gathered Feb. 21 to break ground on the much-awaited 12th Avenue Arts building project at the corner of Pine Street and 12th Avenue.

The Capitol Hill Housing Foundation project is 14 years in the making in its quest to turn a parking lot into a mixed-use structure designed to showcase the best of Capitol Hill. The building will include affordable housing, performing arts, community meeting space and retailers.

Socialites in attendance included Mayor Mike McGinn, Councilmember Nick Licata, Christopher Persons, Hunters Capital’s Michael Malone, Deputy Seattle Police Chief Nick Metz, Senator Ed Murray, and Hillebrity Linda Derschang among many others we’ve run out of newsprint to mention. The festivities included live Balkan music, pizza and coffee.
