Gastro 101: Winter fruit salad

For those of you who made New Year’s resolutions to get or stay in shape, this might help. And considering that we’re only a couple days into 2013, that should be the majority of us. I won’t be able to say the same next week.

This fruit salad, along with a handful of recipes that we’ll display in the next few weeks, might be enough to keep you motivated, as well as keep your belly feeling full – of the right things. Lo and behold, even healthy can taste amazing.

Besides mandarin oranges and pears, this easy recipe includes all of my favorite fruits of winter. Since the citrus juices prevent the apples from browning, this salad can happily be thrown together in advance, allowing you to prepare it at night and have a fresh breakfast ready for you in the morning. The result is a perfect balance of sweet and crisp, soft and tangy, which makes an exquisite snack or accompaniment to any meal.
