“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” - Mark Twain

When I was about five years old, I threatened to run away from home. Rather, I threatened to move into the tree house in our backyard (baby steps). To lure me back into the house before nightfall, my mom baked a lemon poppy seed cake. It worked like a charm. Minutes after the cake left the oven, I was at the back door defeated, looking at my feet while asking to be invited back inside. I have a feeling that this revised lemon lime poppy seed loaf could end wars.
A note about the ingredient list: You can buy already ground almonds in some specialty shops or the occasional bulk section of grocery stores, but it’s less of a headache to do it yourself. Using a small grinder that I typically use to grind coffee or pepper, I ground ½ cup of almonds into a fluffy sugar-like consistency.
